DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A sixth-grade student at Peachtree Middle School has died, a spokesperson for the Dekalb County School District has confirmed.

The school district didn’t disclose the circumstances behind the death of Emmanuela Datsa.
In a statement, the school district said:
The entire DeKalb County School District community, and especially the Peachtree Middle School family, mourns the passing of a sixth-grade student. Our hearts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
Grief counselors were available to students and staff members at Peachtree Middle following the student’s passing.

The school district said they had no further details to share beyond the statement.
A family member who set up a GoFundMe to cover the girl’s funeral expenses says the 11-year-old girl died playing basketball.
