Community raises over $26k in 24 hours for family that lost home to fire

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The Dunwoody community has rallied behind a family that lost their home in a fire on Wednesday, raising over $26k in just 24 hours.

The fire broke out Wednesday at the home on Fountainebleau Drive.] just before 3:10 p.m. Firefighters said that by the time they arrived, the home was 80% involved.

NewsChopper 2 was over the scene as firefighters battled the flames. The home was completely destroyed.

Thankfully, the couple and their 6-month-old son were able to get out.

A GoFundMe set up to help the family identified the couple as Kelly and Ben Scott.

“Thankfully, they and their 6-month-old son, Benjamin, were not physically harmed!” organizers wrote. “Currently, they are in need of food, shelter, clothing, and life essentials.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
