Former TV station location burns in DeKalb

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County Fire Rescue responded to a fire at a vacant building occupied by two people Saturday night.

The fire was at the former location of Channel 46 at 1810 Briarcliff Road, Capt. Jaeson Daniels, the fire rescue’s public information officer said.

The call came at around 6:30 p.m.

The structure had been abandoned for some time. DeKalb Fire had earlier identified the fire site as a Baptist church.

No one was located in the building, but two people who described themselves as residents were found outside. One of them had minor injuries and was treated on scene.

Heavy fire was coming from the roof of the building, but the fire crew was able to put the fire out, Daniels said.

The two who said they lived in the building are being questioned about how the fire started.

The building was significantly damaged, Daniels said.

A shopping cart with a gas can was seen near the fire site by a Channel 2 photographer at the scene.
