COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office says a line of severe thunderstorms Tuesday night blew down at least 30 trees.
Channel 2′s Candace McCowan reported live from Sullivan Road for WSB Tonight where some of the damage was located.
“My back door started slamming open and shut. I went to look out the window and I could see the wind kind of twirling,” Brian Thomas said. “My wife ellen said get away from there and I did, then it was over in about 15, 20 seconds.”

Thomas came outside to find trees down all across the golf course behind his home. Not just branches, but mature trees snapped near the bottom.
Some of them slammed into decks and furniture.
“These are big tall 100 foot trees. They’re two feet around, and if they would’ve landed on a house it would’ve went right through it,” Thomas told McCowan.

“I just heard the limbs starting to come down,” Yvonne Milian said. “You get in a panic mode, grab the kids run down stairs, run to the basement.”
Thankfully, a large tree missed their home. Coweta County Fire got there within minutes.
Coweta County Fire Chief Robby Flanagan told Channel 2 that no one was injured despite all the downed trees, including one that landed on an occupied car.
With the EF-4 tornado from 2021 still fresh on their minds, they’re counting their blessings and taking every storm warning seriously.
“After what happened with the tornado you start to pay attention,” Thomas said. “I pay attention and I look out the window and keep my head on a swivel like they say.”
