ATLANTA — Several residents and a dog were rescued after a fire broke out at an Atlanta apartment building Wednesday afternoon.

Around 12:43 p.m., Atlanta firefighters were called to the 3200 block of Lenox Road NE, where they found smoke coming from a four-story apartment building.
Firefighters found a working fire inside a first-floor unit and quickly extinguished the flames.
Crews searched the building and helped several residents to safety. Two people were removed from a third-floor apartment, according to AFRD.

During the search, firefighters rescued one dog. A second dog was found dead inside the building.
Three people were evaluated at the scene by Grady EMS. It was not immediately clear whether anyone was taken to a hospital.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
