ATLANTA — A friend of a man shot and killed inside a car early Friday morning, says the victim is prominent local DJ, but that has not been confirmed by police or Channel 2 Action News.
Ricky Cooper says he and the victim, along with two teenage acquaintances, were leaving in a car from an apartment complex on McDaniel Street around 1 a.m. Friday.
He told Channel 2’s Tom Regan that’s when the two teens in the back seat pulled guns on him and his friend behind the wheel. He says they had been set up.

“Literally, as we put the car in reverse, they were in the front of the car, having guns to my head and it just went on from there,” said Cooper.
The robbers demanded they turn over jewelry, wallets and cash.
“They tried to take my watch. My first reaction was when they put the gun on me first, I like tried to shield myself. He started to drive, and he put his hand up and said, ‘Y’all don’t need to do this,’ and just a split second later you heard the shot, and it was crazy from there,” said Cooper.
He says his wounded friend slumped over the steering wheel, the car accelerated and crashed into another vehicle. He jumped out and ran, but one of the robbers caught up with him.
“The guy got on top of me and put the gun to my face, and it was like, ‘Give me everything,’” said Cooper.

He says the robber stole a $30,000 Rolex watch, cash and other jewelry, then left. He ran to get help.
“I’m like my friend is up there on the hill and he’s dying,” said Cooper.
Friday morning’s deadly shooting follows a flurry of gunfire at the same apartment complex less than 24 hours earlier. Stray bullets shattered apartment windows and damaged cars. Neighbors say the back-to-back incidents of gun violence are unnerving.
“It makes you sad; people being murdered in the neighborhood is never a good thing. It’s makes you question your safety, especially stray bullets. That’s really dangerous,” said neighbor Fair Noir.
Police have not released the name of the shooting victim and have made no arrests.
