How to tell Ping Ping and Fu Shuang apart when Zoo Atlanta’s panda exhibit opens

The Arthur M. Blank Panda Grove is scheduled to open to the public on Friday.

ATLANTA — Zoo Atlanta’s newest giant pandas are almost ready to meet the public, and their care team is answering the question visitors are likely to ask first: How can you tell Ping Ping and Fu Shuang apart?

The answer is in their faces and their size.

According to the Panda Care Team, female Fu Shuang has a rounder face with a distinctive ridge of fur between her ears that frames her face.

Male Ping Ping is noticeably larger and has a marking that resembles a “Y” running down the bridge of his nose.

Visitors will soon get their chance to put those tips to the test.
