One neighbor who didn’t want to appear on camera knew exactly who was inside.

“I knew those two children were in there because they go to school with my daughter,” the neighbor said.

With smoke filling the home, he began calling out for 7-year-old Cameron and his 5-year-old brother.

“I called him. I said, Cameron, Cameron, Cameron. There was so much smoke it was hard to see. I just grabbed him and pulled him out.”

“The neighbor ran to this window, pulled him out, and his younger brother was still inside.”

“I said, Cameron, where is your brother? He said, ‘He’s scared. He ran back inside.’”

A neighbor’s quick actions helped save the older child, but the young boy and his mom did not survive.

For firefighters, it was a heartbreaking scene.

“This is a tough one. We did all we could,” Fire Chief Roderick M. Smith said.

The cause of this deadly fire remains under investigation.
