GREENE COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia sheriff’s department is warning drivers to remember the Georgia Move Over Law after one of their deputies was nearly hot Sunday night.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office shared the body camera video of the accident Monday. Deputy Josh Wilson had pulled a car over on Interstate 20 for a broken taillight when another vehicle hit the deputy’s door.
“Deputy Wilson very nearly lost his life during this stop. We are so thankful that he and the person he was stopping were uninjured,” the sheriff’s office said.
The office wants this incident to be a reminder to follow the Georgia Move Over Law. It requires drivers to move over if they see an emergency vehicle with flashing lights parked on the side of the highway.

If a driver is unable to move over, the law requires them to slow down when passing. The move over fine in Georgia can be up to $500.
