ATLANTA — If you’re looking to buy sports equipment for your child heading back to school, Channel 2 consumer advisor Clark Howard says buying brand-new is a bad idea.
He says there are better ways to gear up your kids without emptying your wallet.
New sports equipment is expensive, no matter what time of the year your child may be playing sports.
But Clark says your best bet is buying used equipment.

“The best money is spent buying sporting stuff used, buying stuff from friends whose kids have outgrown it,” Clark said. “Anything you can do to avoid buying sporting goods new is going to make a big difference in your wallet.”
Clark says there are also a lot of second-hand stores that sell used sporting equipment.
He says those stores can save you a lot of money.
