CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. — A 66-year-old man is behind bars after police say he threatened to kill a man and his dog before throwing a machete at them.

Chatham County police were called around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to the 400 block of Bonaventure Road after a man reported being threatened while walking his dog.
According to police, the victim was walking along a commercial property access route when a man nearby threatened to kill him and his dog.
The victim told police the man threw a beer can and then a machete at him and his dog.

The machete landed in the roadway. No one was injured.
Officers recovered the machete at the scene and took it into evidence, according to police.
James Robert Carpenter, 66, was arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault and felony terroristic threats and acts.
Carpenter was booked into the Chatham County Detention Center.
