Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes reported on Channel 2 Action News at 4 p.m. from Dekalb County where it all started on Sunday night.
We’re working to learn more about the domestic incident police were originally responding to at the Oasis apartment complex on Bouldercrest Road.
According to Dekalb County police, when they showed up to this apartment complex for a domestic violence call, Demontavious Soho shot at them.
Fernandes spoke to witnesses who were terrified when they heard the shots from their apartments.
They said they saw police on a manhunt for the suspect, and they were stuck for hours.
They said police wouldn’t let anyone out of this gate without verifying who they were.
“Yeah the bullets were flying and they were super duper loud,” one witness said.
It was dinner time Sunday evening when witnesses heard a terrifying sound.
“All I heard was boom, boom, boom. It was like three shots, and then I seen everybody running and stuff,” a witness said.
They said it was chaos in the complex when they looked out the window.
“It was mad cops. I was scared,” a witness said.
The shooting is still under investigation, but police say as soon as officers arrived for a domestic violence call, Soho shot at officers.
It’s unclear if Soho was the reason why someone called 911 for a domestic disturbance, but as soon as investigators say Soho shot two police officers, it was an all-out manhunt.
“They pointed flashlights all in the car and then they kinda looked at us,” a witness said. “Then they pulled a picture of the person its supposed to be – and then they compared it to us and said ‘this not him.’ And they just let us by.”
