Two people were arrested for boating under the influence after separate incidents on Lake Lanier over the Labor Day weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

On Sunday, Sept. 6, Georgia DNR Game Wardens responded to a boating incident near Port Royal Marina in Forsyth County. A pontoon boat had run aground and was resting completely on a shoal.
No injuries were reported. After speaking with witnesses and the operator, wardens suspected he was impaired. He was found to be intoxicated during a BUI screening, according to DNR.
The pontoon was severely damaged and had to be towed from the shoal. The operator was arrested for BUI and taken to the Forsyth County Jail.

Later that night, shortly after 9:30 p.m., wardens responded to another boating incident at the courtesy dock at Landshark Cove in Hall County.
According to witnesses and Margaritaville employees, a person trying to move his vessel from a reserved spot struck a nearby cabin cruiser before parking at a separate dock.
Wardens located the person and arrested him for BUI and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He was taken to the Hall County Jail.
The incidents were included in DNR’s 2026 Labor Day holiday weekend boating activity report. The reporting period runs from Sept. 5 through Sept. 7, with the next report expected Tuesday morning.
