Perry police said the charge follows an investigation into alleged sexually explicit electronic communications with a person believed to be a minor.
Investigators recovered evidence for the charge during a court-authorized search of a cell phone.
Although the investigation developed after an incident at the Georgia National Fair on Tuesday, authorities stated the criminal charge stems from alleged conduct separate from that confrontation.
Perry police told WGXA the confrontation occurred on Tuesday with members who are involved in an “independent, third-party organization that is not affiliated with, authorized by, or acting on behalf of any law enforcement agency.”

Perry police stated there is no known ongoing threat to the public.
Officials are withholding further information because the investigation remains active to protect the integrity of the case.
Anyone with information relevant to the case is encouraged to contact Det. Lt. Kimberly Morton with the Perry Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
The suspect’s age and identity were not released.
