Floyd County prison transitioning to new uniforms for inmates

FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — Officials at the Floyd County Prison are making changes to inmates’ uniforms.

The old traditional white with blue striped inmate uniform is out, replaced by a more durable denim with an orange stripe.

The changeover has already begun, with the new uniforms being issued as new inmates come to the prison.

During the transition, there will be a mix of both the new and old uniforms. Warden Mike Long said not only are the uniforms more durable, but they will also cost less.

Inmates perform several services in Floyd County, including cutting grass, maintaining three former Georgia Department of Natural Resources boat ramps, constructing community pavilions, clearing land, and collecting litter on the roadways.

Long said the transition to the new uniforms should be complete by the first of next year.
