DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The family of a man who was rescued from a burning car says the hero who saved him is now part of their family.
More than 50 relatives of 21-year-old Tyerell Brady showed their appreciation for Red Tate who came to Brady’s rescue.
Brady was moved to the Shepherd Center where he will begin his long road to recovery. The fact he is still alive has his family staying positive.
Brady’s family showed their love and appreciation for Tate after he risked his own life to save Brady.
Brady’s mother, Shakima Hinnant, was overcome with emotion as she hugged and thanked Tate for saving her son.
“You didn’t have to go in there, but you did,” Shakima Hinnant said about Tate pulling her son from a burning car.
Roy Hinnant, Brady’s stepfather, was just as emotional.
“I don’t know what to say,” Roy Hinnant said. “I just wanted to thank him. I didn’t know what I could do for him. I just wanted to thank him.”

More than 50 family members showed up with balloons, posters and ‘Thank You’ cards to show their appreciation for Tate. Relatives as far as New York even called to express their gratitude.
Police say Tate not only rescued Brady the night after Thanksgiving on Turner Hill Road at Interstate 20, but he also detained the suspected drunk driver who attempted to leave the scene.
“I’ve been thinking about this young man ever since the accident,” Tate said.
Brady’s family now says Tate is part of their family and they are naming a new pet in his honor.
“We will be calling our new pet Tate,” Shakima Hinnant said. “Yes, he is a part of our family.”
The family wants Tate to meet their son as soon as he is able to accept visitors.
The driver of the truck faces DUI charges.
