Man found shot and killed near homeless encampment in southwest Atlanta, police are investigating

ATLANTA — A homicide investigation is underway in southwest Atlanta.

On Thursday night, police were called out to a person shot on Cooper Street Southwest.

Officers arrived to find a man shot to death in the road near a homeless encampment.

Police said he had been shot in the chest.

Officer spoke with people nearby who claimed the victim lived at the encampment.

At this time, police said there are no witnesses and there are no suspects in custody.
