Baseball in the metaverse: Braves announce Digital Truist Park

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The Atlanta Braves announced the creation of a “digital twin” of Truist Park on Tuesday.

The project, which the team calls a “first-of-its-kind virtual platform,” promises to offer fans the full baseball stadium experience from the comfort of their home.

With Digital Truist Park, the team said, they will become the first Major League Baseball team to join the metaverse.

“It’s exciting to create a new way for our fans to connect with our team and their favorite ballpark,” Derek Schiller, Atlanta Braves president & CEO, said a news release. “The digital version of Truist Park will offer limitless opportunities to create unique fan engagements in the metaverse and we are proud to be the first team to offer this immersive experience. ”

Digital Truist Park will be powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. Inside, fans can:

  • Create and customize avatars.
  • Explore exclusive areas of Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta, including the Braves Clubhouse and Monument Garden.
  • Enjoy exclusive content, performances and meet-and-greets.
  • Play games, find “easter eggs,” win prizes and more.
