ATLANTA — Atlanta United and Brad Guzan have agreed to a contract extension that will keep the goalkeeper with the team through the 2023 season.

Guzan, 35, received guaranteed compensation of $740,004 during the 2019 MLS season, according to the Major League Soccer Players Association salary database. Guzan was in the last year of his contract.

Guzan has helped the club win the MLS Cup in 2018, and the U.S. Open Cup and Campeones Cup in 2019.

Last season, Guzan tied for the league lead in wins (18) and shutouts (14), which was also a franchise record. He finished ninth in saves (91). In 2018, he finished second in wins (20), third-most in league history, and eighth in shutouts (8).

Guzan signed with Atlanta United in early Jan. 2017, but couldn’t appear in a game for the club until the secondary transfer window opened. He appeared in 14 games, making eight shutouts. The team lost just one game during his starts.

The team has won six of its eight playoff games with Guzan in goal.

Guzan was named an All-Star in 2018 and ’19.
