Usher Rocks Philips Arena

None — ATLANTA, Ga. -- Thousands of people made their way to Philips Arena Sunday night. That's because the musician known simply as Usher was in town.

Usher, born Usher Raymond IV, is in the midst of a tour that will take him from Madison Square Garden in New York to Miami to Germany to Australia and a number of spots in between.

The Grammy-award winning artist has sold nearly 50 millions albums worldwide, but before he was packing arenas, he attended high school in the Atlanta area. Usher attended North Springs High School in Sandy Springs.

Since those days, Usher has embarked on one of the most successful R&B careers in the history of the music industry. Usher is one of the most successful R&B artists when it comes to record sales, music awards and No. 1 hits.

Usher also had a large role in the launching of Justin Bieber's career.

The capacity crowd that witnessed Usher's performance Sunday night included several stars in their own right. The wsbtv.com cameras captured both Ne-Yo and Jermaine Dupri in the crowd.

Usher opened the show on a platform that carried him from the back of the arena floor, over the crowd, several hundred feet to the stage. Once there, the musician performed for nearly two hours.
