THE VILLAGES, Fla. — A Florida woman was killed on Saturday when she failed to put her SUV in park after hitting a vehicle while pulling out of her driveway, authorities said.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 62-year-old woman, who lived in The Villages retirement community in Sumter County, was killed at about 3:56 p.m. EDT.
Troopers said the woman was backing out of her driveway when she crashed into an SUV parked on the opposite side of the road, WTSP-TV reported.
The woman pulled back into the driveway and exited her vehicle, the Villages-News reported. She went to inspect the damage but left the SUV in gear. Her vehicle rolled down the driveway and struck her, causing her death, according to the newspaper.
An investigation is ongoing, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The Villages is located nearly 60 miles northwest of downtown Orlando.
