SOUTH BRISTOL, N.Y. — A New York state trooper rescued a 2-year-old girl from a stream in the Finger Lakes area of the state last week, authorities said.
The child, from Ontario County, had been missing for about an hour on March 27, when trooper Brian Hotchkiss found her on top of a rock in the middle of a stream near South Bristol, Spectrum News reported.
“My heart just dropped, and I was so excited,” Hotchkiss said at a news conference. “I ran up and she hugged me immediately and she wouldn’t let go.”
“She was laying on her stomach on a rock. I was calling her name and ran over to her,” Hotchkiss said at a news conference. “And I saw her arm move and I knew she was alive.”
“Cold, but alert, troopers carried the girl back home to safety,” the New York State Police wrote in a Facebook post.
