Police arrest Tennessee man after mother fatally stabbed, grandmother injured

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — Police in Michigan arrested an eastern Tennessee accused of fatally stabbing his mother dead and his wounding his grandmother.

Joshua Matthew Carr, 30, of Seymour, was wanted in connection with the Wednesday attack that killed his mother, Pamela Carr, 56, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported.

Update 10:51 p.m. EDT Sept. 4: Police in Michigan arrested Joshua Matthew Carr, of Seymour, Tennessee on Friday, WDIV reported.

Troopers and officers from the Lansing Police Department spotted Carr at 7 p.m. Friday driving a vehicle on Interstate 96, the television station reported. Carr was arrested without incident and is currently being held at the Ingham County Jail, pending extradition to Tennessee, WDIV reported.

Original report: According to Sevier County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Michael Hodges, Carr is considered dangerous and could be armed, the newspaper reported.

Hodges said the stabbings were reported in a 911 call at 5;45 a.m. from the older woman, the News Sentinel reported.

First responders found Pamela Carr with multiple stab wounds, the newspaper reported.

“She later succumbed to her wounds,” Hodges told reporters.

Carr’s grandmother, whose name has not been released, is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Hodges said.

Deputies have obtained warrants for aggravated assault and a homicide warrant is pending, according to the News Sentinel.

“We are continuing out investigation and are following leads as they come in or as we develop them,” Hodges told WATE on Thursday night.

Pamela Carr worked for 20 years in the finance department of the Sevierville City Hall, WBIR reported. Co-workers said they were shocked to hear of her death.

“We are incredibly shocked and saddened to hear the news of Pam Carr’s death,” Sevierville City Administrator Russell Treadway told the television station. “Pam has been a part of our family at City Hall for almost 20 years. Our hearts go out to her family and we ask that you join us by keeping them in your thoughts and prayers.”

Detectives said they do not have a motive for the attacks.
