A Texas man died early Sunday after he fell out of a pickup and was run over while the truck’s driver was doing doughnuts in a Dallas parking lot, authorities said.

According to police, Crystian Hernandez, 20, was sitting through the open back left window of the pickup and was clinging to the vehicle as it spun in the parking lot around 1:35 a.m., The Dallas Morning News reported.

When Hernandez fell to the ground, he was hit and run over by the truck’s back left tire, WFAA reported. According to police, Hernandez was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the television station reported.

Police described driving doughnuts in parking lots as a “takeover event,” with hundreds of spectators sometimes showing up, KDFW reported.

The driver of the pickup, 28-year-old Edgar Moncada, was arrested and charged with manslaughter, KTVT reported.

“They’re doing it all day, and tonight, if the weather is nice, they’ll probably be out at two or three different locations,” Yolanda Williams, who is fighting to stop burnouts and street racing, told the television station.
