VERONA, NY — New York State police arrested a 23-year-old Massachusetts man after finding 2 kilos of cocaine hidden in a pair of Lucky Charms cereal boxes during a traffic stop early Saturday, according to authorities.
Around 1:45 a.m., police stopped a vehicle for a suspected traffic violation on Interstate 90 in Verona. While interviewing the driver, 23-year-old Jahn Rentas of Worcester, Massachusetts, officers said they established probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants.
During a subsequent search, police said they found about 4.5 pounds of cocaine hidden in a pair of Lucky Charms cereal boxes.
Officers arrested Rentas on a charge of first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into Oneida County Jail, where he remained Wednesday, according to jail records.
