Aimee Osbourne, 38, who records electropop music under the name ARO, and her producer escaped late Thursday afternoon after the two-story commercial building caught fire, Rolling Stone reported. It took 78 firefighters more than 50 minutes to douse the fire, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Erik Scott said in a statement.

Sharon Osbourne, 69, called the fire and its aftermath “utterly horrific” in an Instagram post.

“It is utterly heartbreaking that someone lost their life today in this fire, and we are sending our prayers to this person and their family,” Sharon Osbourne wrote.

Aimee Osbourne did not participate in her family’s reality show, although her younger siblings, Kelly and Jack Osbourne, did star in the show, according to The Associated Press.

The building’s layout and interior construction were a challenge for firefighters, Scott told the Los Angeles Times. The studios had significant amounts of insulation and double layers of drywall that kept the heat concentrated inside the building.

“Our firefighters took a beating,” Scott said.

Nathan Avery Edwards, 26, has been identified as the man who died in the fire at the Hollywood recording studio Thursday night, according to CBS News and the Times. Edwards recorded, produced and mixed music under the name Avery Draft, the Times reported.

Jonathan Wellman, who rented a recording space in the building down the hall from Edwards, told the Los Angeles Times he was “a talented young artist, producer, engineer.”

“He was a very promising young talent,” Wellman told the newspaper.

Authorities have not officially released the name of the victim.

Hip-hop artist Maxxamillion told KABC-TV that he lost his entire studio and $50,000 worth of equipment in the fire.

“I opened the door, I saw smoke coming from across the hall,” he told the television station. “I immediately reached over to grab a jug of water. I threw it at the door, flames bursted. I tried to go back to my room and grab anything I could, but flames were everywhere, and we ran out the building, and that was it.”

Last month, Aimee Osbourne released a new song, “Against Mine,” Rolling Stone reported.

“It was honestly one of the fastest songs I’ve ever written,” she told the magazine. “It was miraculous.”
