Ohio police officer shot, killed in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — An Ohio police officer was fatally shot Thursday night in Cleveland, authorities said.

According to WEWS and WKYC, Cleveland police Detective James Skernivitz, 53, was shot and killed about 10 p.m. on West 65th Street, said Jeff Follmer, president of the Cleveland Police Patrolman Association. The Police Department has not confirmed that Skernivitz, who had been with the department for 25 years, was the slain officer, the outlets reported.

A second person, whose name was not released, also died in the incident, police said. That person was not considered a suspect, according to the news outlets.
