WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — An animal rescued by a woman who found it outside her home in Pennsylvania, but whose identity has eluded rescuers, escaped from the facility where it was being kept.
The animal, found in Fairfield Township last week, was not easily classified as either a dog or a coyote when it was rescued, as we reported last week. Christina Eyth, who rescued the animal from outside her home, initially thought it was a dog but was less sure when she got closer.
In the post, the wildlife rescue said they are working to track the animal and get him back. They also offered to return any donations that were sent to care for the animal.
The animal was being held at a rescue and wildlife facility, which announced on Facebook that the animal had escaped from its cage. The rescue group said in the post that their employees found a destroyed, empty cage and trashed hospital area, as well as scratches on the wall and evidence where the animal forced a window open before tearing through a screen.
Genetic testing has been done to identify what the animal is, but the results have not yet come back, WPXI reported.
The wildlife group warned people in the area not to attempt to rescue the animal if it is spotted.
