Wallen, 29, is footing the bill for the Humphreys County all-star squad to attend the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series in Anderson, South Carolina, this weekend, WZTV reported. The area is still recovering from the catastrophic flooding that hit the area on Aug. 21, 2021, killing 20 people, WTVF reported.
“From my team to yours, we want to send y’all to South Carolina,” Wallen said in a video to the state champions, comprising 11- and 12-year-olds, according to the television station.
Assistant coach Steven Wilson said the past week has been an emotional time for the squad, which would not have been able to compete in South Carolina without some financial help.
The team won the Tennessee state title on July 20, and the coaches found out about Wallen’s donation on Monday, WZTV reported. The coaches showed team members the surprise video on Tuesday night.
“I was excited, happy and just thankful for him,” Tucker Warren, one of the team’s players, told the television station.
To honor Wallen, who said he played baseball as a youth and that it was his favorite sport, team members are now sporting mullet haircuts, WTVF reported.
“I got it because of Morgan Wallen, he’s my favorite singer too, and speaking of him, he donated all this stuff,” Tennessee player Tye Browning told the television station. “Thank you if you’re watching this, and that’s it.”
In addition to the new hairstyles, players said they would give Wallen a custom jersey and a signed baseball to thank him, WZTV reported.
