IRS reopens registration for people who didn’t get $500 stimulus check for their kids

If you still have not received a stimulus check, it’s not too late.

The Internal Revenue Service announced it is reopening registration for people with children who did not receive a $500 dependent payment earlier this year.

Those who usually don’t file taxes were eligible for stimulus payments earlier this year but had to provide the IRS additional information about their dependents under the age of 17.

The IRS set up a non-filers tool in April but it was only open for a few weeks. Now, it has reopened the registration for people with children who ran out of time to provide their information.

To get a check, people will need to use IRS.gov Non-Filers tool starting Aug. 15 through Sept. 30 and enter information to receive the $500 supplemental payments.

The IRS expects to hand out the payments in mid-October. So far, the IRS says it has delivered 160 million payments.

If you miss the Sept. 30 deadline, you will have to wait until next year and claim it as a credit on your 2020 federal income tax return.
