Girl, 10, charged with attempted murder in shooting of 16-year-old boy in Tennessee

JACKSON, Tenn. — A 10-year-old girl is facing an attempted murder charge after police said she intentionally shot a 16-year-old boy in Tennessee.

According to WBBJ-TV, the shooting occurred about 5 p.m. Tuesday at the East Point Apartments in Jackson. Officers arrived to find the teen, who had been shot in his chest, Jackson police said in a news release.

Investigators determined that a 10-year-old girl had purposely shot the teen, the release said. Police recovered the firearm and detained the girl, who faces charges of second-degree attempted murder and using a firearm during a felony, officials said.

Crews rushed the teen to a nearby hospital, according to the release. Afterward, he was transferred to a Memphis hospital, where doctors described his condition as “critical but stable,” police said.

The suspect remains in the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services’ custody, according to the news release.
