The articulated bus was seen dangling over the side of the overpass Thursday night, WCBS reported.

Passengers were thrown to the front of the accordion-like vehicle.

The cables that connect the two portions kept the bus from falling 50 feet down, WPIX reported. The front of the bus did come to rest on the road below the bridge.

The driver, who had an injury to his jaw, got out of the wreckage and helped passengers to safety.

Officials told WABC the driver had been trying to turn left onto a ramp on the Washington Bridge when the crash happened.
