NASHVILLE, N.C. — A 6-year-old boy is recovering in a North Carolina hospital after deputies said he was hurt in an accidental shooting in Nash County.
According to WNCN and WRAL, the incident occurred about 2 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Maggie Road in Nashville. Nash County sheriff’s deputies said the boy was home with his 16-year-old brother and his friends when one of the teens began showing off a gun, WNCN reported. The gun somehow discharged, accidentally striking the 6-year-old, deputies said.
Investigators said the victim’s parents weren’t at home during the incident, according to WRAL.
Emergency crews flew the child to a nearby hospital, where he had surgery, according to the news outlets. Authorities expect him to survive, WNCN reported.
