MARTINSBURG, W.Va — Workers at a water treatment plant in Martinsburg discovered a body in one of the waste tanks.
The City of Martinsburg said in a statement on Facebook that the staff at Big Springs Water Treatment Plant discovered the body when they got to work on Thursday, according to WDTV.
“The Waste Tank where the individual was discovered contains the impurities and other material that is removed from the drinking water prior to the final purification and distribution,” city officials said. None of the water that was in the waste tank was “reintroduced into the drinking water,” they added.
Emergency medical services and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s office were called following the discovery of the body. The city said that they spoke with multiple agencies to make sure the water was safe. according to The Associated Press.
The identity of the body and the cause and manner of death have not yet been released.
