9-month-old baby boy shot, killed in California while mother was pushing him in stroller

MERCED, Calif. — A 9-month-old baby boy was shot and killed while getting pushed in a stroller by his mother in Merced, California, on Wednesday.

According to a news release from the Merced Police Department, just after 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers were called out to a McDonald’s near 13th and R Street for a shooting. When they arrived, officers found a 9-month-old boy and his mother inside the restaurant. The boy was shot and declared deceased at the scene. MPD later identified the boy as Darius King Grigsby.

According to CBS News, the mother was pushing the stroller while walking with her boyfriend when a car drove up and one of the people inside opened fire, hitting the boy.

Detectives are continuing to canvas the areas for video surveillance and witnesses, according to CBS News.

The investigation is ongoing. No suspects have been identified yet. No further information has been released.
