Must See: Baby possum clings to dog's coat

FILE PHOTO: A puli dog, similar to the one pictured, became a surrogate mom for a few hours after a baby possum hitched a ride on the dog's coat.

A pet owner in Australia got quite a surprise when her puli dog became transport for a baby possum.

Sally Watkinson said she discovered a baby possum in the fur of her dog's coat.

A puli is known for its long coat that looks like dreadlocks, or cords, according to the American Kennel Club.

The possum, which is different than the opossum found in America, was clinging to the dog's long locks.

Both of Watkinson's dogs were calm around the frightened baby, The Dodo reported.

Watkinson eventually walked to a nearby vet, with the possum holding onto the dog the entire ride, to have the possum checked out, according to The Dodo.

Once given the all-clear, the possum was given to a wildlife carer so it can grow before being released back into the wild if the real mother can't be found.
