Thief Steals Campaign Signs From Politician's Yard

ATLANTA — Several empty stakes stood where campaign signs used to be at the Atlanta home of state Rep. Mike Jacobs. Someone has been snatching his yard signs in the middle of the night.

He said he has replaced his yard signs along North Druid Hills near Brookhaven a several times this month.

"It's not fair to these folks who've given permission for me to place a sign on their property because they are my supporters," the Republican representative told Channel 2's Jovita Moore.

A security camera hidden between the leaves of his neighbors' Magnolia tree caught the sign snatcher in action one day this week. The culprit swiped several signs just before 5 a.m.

"It's petty up to a point. Each one of the yard signs actually costs $3 a piece, so once you've stolen a significant number of them you've got theft," said Jacobs, who represents District 80.

Jacobs said he doesn't recognize the person, but he hopes someone else will.

"It's difficult to know who it is, but it's not right," Jacobs said.

Jacobs' opponent released a statement saying she's not involved.

"My campaign was not involved in stealing my opponents' signs nor do I condone such behavior for my campaign staff," said District 80 candidate Sandy Murray.
