ATLANTA — A repeat car break-in suspect is back behind bars after Atlanta police say he committed the same crime again.

On July 27, Atlanta officers responded to a call about a possible theft from a truck on Penelope Road NW. Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the scene and recognized both the suspect and the car involved.
Police said investigators later obtained warrants for the suspect, Dustin Godfrey, 31.
Officers then flagged his car’s license plate.
On Aug. 18, officers received an alert that the car was in the area of Grant Street SE and Englewood Avenue SE.

When officers arrived, they found Godfrey with the vehicle disabled in the roadway.
While being taken into custody, Godfrey appeared to be on the phone with his girlfriend, stating, “They saying I got a warrant, bae.”
The woman replied, “For what?”
Godfrey was arrested and booked into the Fulton County Jail. He’s charged with entering an automobile and theft by taking.
According to police, Godfrey is a known larceny-from-vehicle offender who was previously arrested by Atlanta police in May 2026 in connection with a vehicle break-in and the fraudulent use of stolen banking cards.
The investigation remains ongoing.
