ATLANTA, Ga. — 'The Sound of Music' opened Tuesday night at the Fox Theatre.
For most, the story is a familiar one.
Maria, a novitiate, or nun in training, is sent from a nearby convent to act as governess to the seven children of widowed Austrian aristocrat, Capt. von Trapp. She soon wins the hearts of the children and their father. With the impending Nazi occupation of Austria, the family barely escapes to the safety of Switzerland.

Mandy Bruno played the role of Maria. Bruno received an Emmy nomination for her role as Marina Cooper on the CBS soap opera, "The Guiding Light." On Broadway she starred as Eponine in 'Les Misérables' and was featured in Patti Lupone's 'Gypsy.'
