DEKALB COUNTY, Ga.,None — Police made a third arrest Monday in connection with the death of a man who was shot and killed while on his way home from his high school reunion. Officials said they have charged a juvenile, along with two other men, in Anthony Scott Carter's death.
Police said they would not release the juvenile's name due to his age, but he is the third person charged in the case along with Menshack Nyepah and Darius Mapp. All three have been charged with murder.
Nyepah faces felony murder and false reporting of a crime charges. DeKalb County police officials said Nyepah, along with Mapp and a 16-year-old boy, participated in the deadly drive-by shooting of Carter.
Police said Carter was on his way home from his Avondale High School reunion when he was ambushed as he sat in his car at a stop light on Panola Road at Covington Highway early Saturday morning.
Police said they do not have a motive for the shooting and have yet to find any connection between the suspects and Carter.
Carter's family told Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Jones that they are baffled.
"I just don't know why they'd want to do something like this to an innocent person. What was on their mind," asked Carter's aunt, Betty Peters.
Carter's family members said the father of five was returning home from his high school reunion when he was shot.
Jones has learned that the murder charge is not Nyepah's first brush with the law. Records show authorities arrested him in Nov. 2009 and charged him with felony aggravated assault, carrying a pistol without a license, discharging a firearm near or on a public highway and 1st degree criminal damage to property. The district attorney's office told Jones that the case is still under investigation and awaiting indictment.
Meanwhile, Carter's family wants justice.
"Whoever had my son killed, I hope they pay for it," said Carter's mother, Lessie Carter.
Nyepah is accused of telling police his car was stolen before the shooting and that's why he's being charged with false reporting of a crime.
Police said they are looking for a fourth suspect.
