Sunday alcohol sales start in several metro cities

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga.,None — Starting today, residents of metro Atlanta will have a lot more places to shop for alcohol on Sundays.

The earliest stores can open up is 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

One of those stores is the New York Butcher Shoppe in Sandy Springs, which will now sell wine and other alcoholic drinks on Sundays.

The owner expects that will mean more money in the till.

"We're extremely excited. We think this is a big deal for us, because being a custom service meat market, (our) busiest days are Friday, Saturday, Sunday," said owner Robb Dillon.

Customers said they like the convenience.

Sunday alcohol sales will go into effect Sunday in more than a dozen Atlanta-area cities, including Roswell, Alpharetta and Lawrenceville.

But in metro Atlanta itself, city leaders delayed the start of Sunday sales until Jan. 1.

Dunwoody is also starting later, on Dec. 4.
