Storage Unit Thieves Steal Christmas Gifts

TYRONE, Ga. — Thieves broke into a Fayette County storage facility and stole from more than five dozen units, police said.

Officers found 63 storage units with broken locks at Shamrock Storage in Tyrone, along with a large hole cut into a barbed wire fence.

Police told Channel 2's Amanda Cook that many victims found out about the burglary when they arrived to pick up stored Christmas presents.

"A lady had several Christmas presents. She showed up to get them ready for Christmas but opened the doors and there wasn't anything in there," said Tyrone police Lt. Steven Lafferty.

Lafferty said the list of missing items is expected to get longer. "Generators, air compressors, tools, stuff that they can pawn. Some people had ammo that was taken. Thankfully no guns were taken," he told Cook.

Lafferty said that there are no surveillance pictures or video of the thieves.
