HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Grief counselors will be at a Henry County high school Thursday morning as more students learn about the death of a sophomore killed in a car wreck Wednesday evening.

Henry County police said the single-car crash happened near 1400 Pates Creek Road, near Noah's Arc Road in Stockbridge. A car flipped and ejected three teenagers in Henry County, killing 16-year-old Jasmine Poole and injuring two others. All three are students at Dutchtown High School.

“It is absolutely horrible. (Jasmine) just turned 16,” said Tiffany Berrien, a family friend. “She was the sweetest little girl you ever want to meet; she was a cheerleader.”

Two other teens, a boy and a girl, were airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the car, the male, is a senior and was undergoing a surgery early Thursday morning, according to officials. The other female passenger is a sophomore and officials say she is in better condition than she was Wednesday evening.

Police said the car ran off the road, into a ditch and overturned. Other cars were also involved in the wreck.

Witnesses told investigators that the teens may have been street racing and one vehicle swerved to avoid an on-coming car.

Diana Morris heard it happen outside her home.

“The first thing I heard sounded like there was explosion and I could see a car was outside and hit my mom’s car and it was upside down,” said Diana Morris, who was inside her home when the car came within feet of her front door.  “My little daughter was asleep on the floor if the car hadn’t been there how much worse this situation would be.”

"This is certainly something we hate to see, pulling up and working these type of scenes," Henry County police Lt. Jason Bolden said.

A school spokesman said the school just held their prom on Saturday night.

“It is going to be very hard to focus, knowing our friend died in a car accident,” said Deshawn Convington, a Dutchtown junior and friend of the teens.
