ATLANTA — Visitors to the Atlanta Botanical Garden can witness to the wide variety and multitude of flowers the attraction offers, but it has also doubled in size after a $55 million expansion.
The centerpiece of that expansion is the Canopy Walk. Sitting 40 feet in the air, 600 feet in length with a 12-foot-wide path, the Canopy Walk winds visitors through a collection of oaks, hickories and poplar trees. It's the only tree-level canopy walk in the U.S. and offers a bird's eye view of the Woodland Garden below. It opened in May 2010 and connects the gardens to the Storza Woods.
"The Canopy Walk was lovely," noted visitor Margaret Vaughan. "(Walking on it was) a lovely fresh feeling and greenery everywhere."

The Edible Garden and Outdoor Kitchen was part of the expansion, too. Past visitors might realize those are where the parking lot used to be.
"(The Edible Garden) is filled with fruits, lettuce, vegetables, herbs and one of the cornerstones is a kitchen," Atlanta Botanical Garden executive director Mary Pat Matheson noted.
"So as you can come and see all those great vegetables and fruits and herbs, you can also learn what to do with them, how to cook with them, and we have some of Atlanta's finest chefs cooking here this year," she continued.
The Edible Garden and Outdoor Kitchen showcases the farm-to-table concept. The Edible Garden shows what can be grown in Georgia, too. There's even a 55-foot vertical herb wall containing 2,000 plants.
