ATLANTA — Gloria Milton of Crawfordsville has won a $1 million prize playing Powerball. Milton won her prize from the Aug. 6 Powerball drawing, selecting a Quik Pik ticket that matched that first five winning numbers.
“I watch the numbers every Wednesday and Saturday night,” she said. “I was watching when the numbers fell.”
Crawfordsville Mart, 248 Broad St. N.W. in Crawfordsville, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.
Winning numbers from the Aug. 6 Powerball drawing were: 1-8-24-28-49 and the Powerball was 24.
“I fell off my bed and hit my leg on the table,” Milton recalled while watching the drawing. “I got a little bruise, but I’m OK.”
The lucky winner is in disbelief.
“I didn’t get any sleep. The next morning I called the lottery hot line,” Milton said. “I looked at the ticket, and that’s when I fell again. My hand started shaking.”
With her winnings, Milton intends to purchase a new car.
“I really want to get a nice new car,” she said. “I just want to really breathe for a couple of days.”
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is at an estimated $50 million to a single annuity winner. Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Players can add the Power Play feature for an additional $1 per play to increase non-jackpot prize winnings.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
