Pride Festival, Falcons game to fill Atlanta streets

ATLANTA,None — The 41st Atlanta Pride Festival will bring as many as 60,000 people to Midtown on Sunday.

Police started closing off roads along the festival's parade route at noon. The parade started at 1 p.m..

The Atlanta event is one of the biggest gay pride events in the nation and the largest to coincide with National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11.

"You're going to see everything from churches to bars to bankers to lawyers to elected officials," organizer James Sheffield told Channel 2 Action News. "There's very little you won't find in this parade. There's really something for everyone: cars floats, people marching, everything."

Traffic will remain heavy throughout much of the day as the Atlanta Falcons also play downtown on Sunday. The team will host the Green Bay Packers at the Georgia Dome. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m..
