ROSWELL, Ga.,None — Police said they've asked the Department of Family and Children Services to investigate a Roswell woman who they arrested Monday for causing a wreck while driving drunk with her toddler in the back seat.
Ashley Shields, 34, faces numerous charges, including DUI and child endangerment, after police said she crossed the center line on Old Alabama Road Monday afternoon, and crashed into two vehicles heading the opposite direction.
Shields posted a $16,500 bond and was out of jail, but police couldn't tell Channel 2's Mike Petchenik who had custody of her 18-month-old son.
According to a police report Petchenik obtained, Shields admitted to police she'd been drinking vodka and taking pills that morning before getting behind the wheel.
Donald Peterson told Petchenik he was driving on Old Alabama Road when he saw Shields pass him at a high rate of speed.
"I said, 'I wonder what you have to be drinking to make a pass like that,'" Peterson told Petchenik.

Peterson said within seconds, he saw Shields try to correct but then slide into the other cars. A man in a Jeep Cherokee had to be pulled from his car by firefighters.
A woman in Nissan was slightly injured by the impact. Peterson said Shields emerged from her SUV dazed and confused.
"I was having difficulty understanding her," said Peterson.
Peterson said Shields' son appeared to be OK, but was taken to the hospital for observation.
Petchenik attempted to reach Shields again Wednesday for comment, but a relative told him the family would not be talking.
