ATLANTA — Police have scaled back their search of a southwest Atlanta apartment complex after a child reported his friend was abducted by a man offering them candy.
Officers said they were called to the Central Methodist apartment complex off of Fairburn Road shortly after 2 p.m.
When investigators arrived they said two children told them a man drove up to them while they were playing on a playground at the complex and tried to coax them into the car by offering them candy.
Jadarius and Dequintavius Gresham said they ran away, but said the other child, who goes by the name Boss, went up to the car. The children told police that's when the man scooped Boss into the car and took off.
"He went close to the car and he snatched him back into the car," Jadarius Gresham said.
News Chopper 2 flew overhead as police swarmed the complex going door-to-door questioning neighbors about anything they might know about the possible abduction.
Investigators said they still have not gotten a positive ID on the child and do not know where the child's parents are.
“We don't know the circumstances of where his parents are or anything like that,” John Chaffee with the Atlanta Police Department said.
“I'm really worried about the little boy cause I really want him to be found,” neighbor Lakeshia Gresham said.
Later in the evening, police started searching a neighboring complex after getting information that the child might live there.
Just before 11 p.m. investigators told Channel 2’s Tony Thomas they had talked to two children that lived in the area that went by the same name of Boss and that both children were OK.
Investigators said they are still not sure if a child has been abducted or not, but they were going to keep a presence at the apartment complex overnight just in case.
