Police: High-End Burglars Used Internet

ATLANTA — Police announced Monday the arrest of several people in connection with a burglary ring that they say was stealing millions of dollars worth of high-end appliances and then selling them on the Internet.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Jeff Dore was at the news conference where investigators said the thieves would identify a home to burglarize, targeting expensive new homes that were for sale and unoccupied. They were after top-dollar appliances such as refrigerators, ranges and microwaves.

The stolen items were quickly put up for sale on Internet sites such as Craigslist and Kijiji, according to Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard.

Detectives said there are several steps purchasers can take to make sure they are not buying stolen items over the Internet. To see those steps click here.

Police estimate the burglars were stealing about $2 million worth of items a year and selling them for about $500,000.

Joseph Mobbs, 32; Kinneth Devrick, 34 and Tracy Devrick, 37, will all be indicted for burglary, according to Howard.
