CHAMBLEE, Ga. — Chamblee police officials said officers are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident near a bowling alley.
Officers were called to Savoy Drive at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday by the driver, police said.
Chamblee police said the pedestrian was identified as 50-year-old Kenneth Del Dillard. Police said Dillard lived in an apartment complex on North Peachtree Road in Chamblee, a few blocks from the accident location.
Police said Dillard was wearing all black clothing and was in an area that was not well-lit. A friend of Dillard told police that he had been drinking and decided to walk to visit someone in a nearby apartment complex rather than drive.
According to investigators, Dillard was walking westbound on the grass shoulder of Savoy Drive and stepped into the road in front of a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder. The driver of the Pathfinder struck Dillard, who landed on the right shoulder.
The driver was released without being charged.
The investigation continues.
